This is the fifth Report jointly produced by Alexbank and SRM to monitor the dynamics of the Suez Canal, a key global chokepoint handling 9–12% of seaborne trade, highlighting its resilience and challenges amid geopolitical tensions and Red Sea disruptions. Despite the sharp decline in traffic in 2024, the maritime system has shown adaptability, supported by the solid performance of Mediterranean ports.

Egypt is strengthening its logistics position through infrastructure investments, port development and the SCZone, emerging as a hub for international capital and new energy sectors. The Canal remains a crucial yet vulnerable infrastructure, whose future competitiveness will depend on security, sustainability and logistical integration.
